Hello all!
Well this week has been rather interesting here in NYC. We had a tornado! This is very rare for our area and thankfully there were no deaths or serious injuries. A lot of beautiful old trees were toppled and some people suffered roof damage and flooding, but all in all we got off very easy. The National Weather Service estimated the winds to be between 110 and 130 MPH!
We lost our cable and phone service for a few hours and the power flickered off and on a few times, but we were fortunate enough not to suffer any catastrophic damage. A few homes lost their roofs!
I have jars full of cuttings waiting to be potted up. They are a mix of Lemon Lime philodendron, Pepperomia, and Lavender. Yes, Lavender makes a very nice houseplant provided you get the compact variety and can give it a sunny windowsill. Check out my article on the subject for more info.
I’d like to welcome Contributing Writer Tami Port to Houseplants! Please check out her terrific articles on Orchids, a beautiful but sometimes intimidating houseplant. Her articles offer lots of tips and helpful advice that will hopefully encourage you to give them a try. They are truly stunning when in bloom.
I am in the process of posting several new articles and I hope you’ll enjoy them. I always welcome feedback either by mail or via our discussion area! Our contributing writers also enjoy hearing from readers, so don’t be shy!
