Hello! I'm the new Feature Writer for Houseplants and I'm thrilled to welcome you to the Houseplant section. Spring is here and it's the perfect time to think about starting an indoor garden if you're a newcomer, or adding to it if you're a veteran.
This is the time everything comes alive. Trees awaken, flowers bloom, and lawns turn a rich green. Your houseplants do the same. About this time they begin to come out of their winter's dormancy and begin a new cycle of growth. If you need to repot or prune, do it now. It's also a good time to give your plants a spring cleaning. Wipe the leaves with a soft, damp cloth or give them a gentle shower under the tap or in the tub.
It's also the perfect time to buy new plants online, now that the threat of freeze is past for most areas of the country and the summer heat isn't here yet. Check out our article on buying from online nurseries for more tips. Houseplants will also start appearing at local garden centers and nurseries. Pick up a few! Even if you're new to houseplants, don't be afraid. They are inexpensive and most are easy to care for.
Don't forget Mom, Dad, or Grads either! Houseplants make great gifts and will be around to remind them of your thoughtfulness long after cut flowers have died, and they really help brighten up a drab dorm room or apartment. They are also a great gift for kids to give to their favorite teachers at the end of the school year.
There really is something in the world of houseplants to please everyone!
